Criminal Violence and Attitudes Toward Immigrants in Mexico

Dr. García-Ponce is Associate Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington University. His research examines the political and socioeconomic causes of intrastate organized violence, the impacts of such violence, and their policy implications, with an emphasis on criminal and political violence in Latin America. To study these issues, he combines experimental and quasi-experimental designs with qualitative field research. His work has been published in leading academic journals and supported by governments, international agencies, civil society organizations, and several grant awards. He received a Ph.D. in Political Science from New York University in 2016 and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Global Development. He was born and raised in Mexico City, where he completed a B.A. in Politics and Public Administration at El Colegio de México.
