Cisneros Class of 2024

The Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute is proud to celebrate its fifth graduating cohort of students, including fifteen undergraduate Cisneros Scholars and three Graduate Fellows.

Despite largely beginning their college experience online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cisneros Class of 2024 has made a strong impact on The George Washington University’s campus and beyond. A few of their long list of achievements include assisting on a major longitudinal NIH-funded research project, studying and interning abroad, leading student organizations, winning GW student employee of the year, and being selected as a finalist for a Fulbright fellowship. Following the tradition started by previous cohorts, graduating Cisneros Scholars have fostered a sense of familia through peer support and shared memories like cheering on their favorite teams during the 2023 FIFA World Cup.

Emma Ramos, Cisneros Scholar ‘24 and first-generation college student from San Antonio, shared, “Being a Cisneros Scholar means that I have a support system that understands me in ways that other people on campus may not. I am beyond grateful to this support system that has helped me grow academically, professionally, and personally.”

Alex Bayon, Cisneros Scholar ‘24 and first-generation college student from New York, reflected on the significance of being a Scholar, remarking, “Being a Cisneros Scholar means being a part of a family. It is a community dedicated to prospering and helping one another in that process. I am incredibly proud and grateful to be a part of it.”

The Class of 2024 has a range of post-graduation plans. Those continuing to pursue further education have chosen to enter fields ranging from Sports Psychology to Human Rights at institutions like Columbia, GW, and the Universidad Europea de Madrid. Others will be beginning their careers at organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign, JP Morgan Chase, and the U.S. Department of State.

Trey Johnston, Associate Director of the Institute, shared, “We are so proud of each and every student in the Class of 2024, and we know they will continue to make a huge impact in their communities wherever they go next!”
